WHY BECOME A MUSLIM?

“Truly! Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (Alone). This is the Straight Path(Quran 3:51).

One of the greatest questions that a non-Muslim can ever ask him/herself:

“Why should I become a Muslim?

Truth be told, all humans are born in a natural state of Islam, called the fitrah. It is the parents, or legal guardians, of the newborn who decide the path of religion that the helpless soul will be brought up to recognise as their faith.

However, for many of those newborns brought up as non-Muslims, the fitrah will be a constant force that gently pulls and incessantly prods him or her to question their faith, search for answers and seek out the true religion of God.

If you are a non-Muslim considering the religion of Islam, then you may have many concerns. You may be feeling an insatiable pull to the religion of Islam, but are unsure of how to proceed or are perhaps worried about the changes that switching your faith might bring. There are countless reasons why someone should become a Muslim and here are just a few that will, God willing, illuminate your journey to Islam:

1). As mentioned previously, you were born in a natural state of Islam. So, if you think about it, you were already a Muslim at one point in your life! When someone connects to their natural state of Islam, for which he or she was created, an overwhelming and indescribable sense of peace takes over from that very first moment.

2). It is only through the religion of Islam that a human can truly connect with our Creator. Look around you. Whether you look in your own community, family or even the television screen – there is a massive disconnect between non-Muslims and their Creator evident in our world today. The side effects of that disconnect are evident in everyday society in the form of crime, lewdness, vice, bullying and the like. Once a human denies his/her fitrah and blindly follows a religion other than that of Islam, chaos and a sense of hopelessness prevails. Humans, by their very nature, are pulled back towards their Creator. And each of us possesses a free will to either heed the call or ignore it.

3). The Qur’an and the way of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are blessings from God Almighty that completely and perfectly guide mankind to a life in accordance with Islam that does not transgress the bounds of humanity and holds each soul accountable for both good and bad deeds. You won’t find such accountability in the other world religions.

4). Islam is the only Religion which has not been distorted or changed.

5). Islam is the Religion for humankind at large, regardless of their education, time and place which, in contrast to previous religions were sent to a specific people during a specific time.

6). Islam satisfies the man’s bodily and spiritual needs in equilibrium.

7). Accepting Islam wipes out all sins which came before it. The person’s record is clean, and it is as if he was just born from his mother’s womb.

8). If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter, he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (their selves in the Hellfire).” (Quran 3:85)

9). Salvation from the Hellfire which all prophets have warned about. “Indeed God has forbidden to reside eternally in Hell the person who says: “I testify that none has the right to worship except Allah (God),’ seeking thereby the Face of God.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

10). The greatest benefit is that a Muslim is promised by God the reward of eternal Paradise (Heaven). Those who are blessed with Paradise, will live eternally in bliss without any sort of sickness, pain or sadness. God will be pleased with them and they will be pleased with Him. Even the lowest in rank among the dwellers of Paradise will have ten times the like of this world, and they will have whatever they desire. In fact, in Paradise there are pleasures that no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, and no mind has ever thought of. It will be a very real life, not spiritual only, but physical as well.
